What Is Happening to Drift?

Salesloft has announced that it is retiring Drift, its conversational marketing product. The official Drift Sunset FAQ (Salesloft, updated September 22, 2026) gives these dates:

• January 31, 2027: Drift is retired. Your access ends on this date or at the end of your current contract, whichever comes first.
• After the sunset: the Drift chat widget, Drift Email, and custom integrations built on the Drift API stop working.
• Through April 30, 2027: if your contract runs past the sunset, Salesloft stores your data offline so you can still request an export.
• May 1, 2027: all remaining Drift data is permanently deleted if no export was requested.

Salesloft names 1Mind as its recommended replacement for Drift chatbot functionality and allGood for Drift Email. Those partners fit teams that used Drift the way it was designed: for B2B sales conversations. Many small teams used Drift for something else. They used it to answer customers. That changes what a good replacement looks like.

Why Small Support Teams Need a Different Kind of Tool

Drift was built for pipeline generation: engage website visitors, qualify leads, and book meetings for sales reps. Its pricing and setup reflect that. Drift does not publish prices; third-party estimates put its entry tier at about $2,500 per month on an annual contract, and implementations typically take four to eight weeks. A small support team has a different job. The questions are about shipping, returns, pricing, account access, and how a product works. The answers already exist on your website, in your help center, or in your team's heads. You need a tool that finds those answers fast, says "I don't know" when it should, and lets a person step in without friction.

So the move away from Drift is a good time to ask a simple question: do you need a sales tool, a support tool, or both? If most of your chats are customer questions, pick a support-first AI chatbot and add lead capture on top, not the other way around.

What to Look for in a Drift Alternative

Pricing models differ a lot. Some tools charge per seat, some per AI outcome or resolution, some per conversation, and some meter AI credits. Per-outcome and per-conversation pricing can be fair, but your bill grows with every busy week. Model your real monthly chat volume before you sign.

4. Fast setup without a project team

If Drift took weeks and a RevOps admin to configure, do not repeat that. A small team should be able to install the replacement with one script tag and test it the same day.

5. The integrations you actually use

List the Drift integrations you depend on today: CRM, calendar booking, Slack alerts, or ecommerce data. Check that the new tool connects to them, or to an automation tool such as Zapier or n8n that can bridge the gap.

A Six-Step Drift Migration Plan

You do not need a big project. You need a list and a few calm weeks. Follow these steps in order.

1. Check your dates. Find your Drift contract end date. Your access ends on that date or on January 31, 2027, whichever comes first.
2. Export what you need. Ask your Salesloft account manager or Salesloft Support for a data export. Do it early, not in the last week.
3. List your playbooks and integrations. Write down every Drift bot playbook, routing rule, and connected tool. Mark each one "keep", "replace", or "drop".
4. Collect your top questions. Pull your 20 most common chat questions from transcripts. Make sure the answers exist on your website or in a document the new AI can learn from.
5. Run the new tool in parallel. Install it on a staging site or a few pages first. Test it against your top questions and fix the gaps.
6. Switch and remove Drift. Put the new widget live, remove the Drift script from every page, and confirm only one chat widget loads.

Plan to finish step 6 well before January 31, 2027. Salesloft says the Drift widget stops working after the sunset, so a forgotten script tag leaves a dead chat button on your site.

Waiting for the deadline. A rushed switch skips testing. Give yourself a few weeks of parallel running.

Copying old playbooks one to one. Rule-based playbooks often become unnecessary once an AI can answer from your content. Rebuild only the flows that still earn their place.
